Engineering Plus
At SST, Engineering+ (Electronics and Computing) equips students with the knowledge and skills to thrive in this rapidly evolving technological landscape. The subject integrates electronics, programming and computational thinking, enabling students to design, prototype and build intelligent systems that solve real-world problems.
Students learn how hardware and software work together through hands-on projects involving sensors, microcontrollers, embedded systems and IoT technologies. As programming becomes increasingly essential across engineering disciplines, students develop the ability to bridge electronics with computing, preparing them for future pathways in engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
Engineering+ also introduces students to the exciting frontier of Space Technology. Drawing on their knowledge of electronics, coding, and systems design, students will have opportunities to explore the development of nanosatellites and smart space-based systems. Through these authentic learning experiences, students gain insight into how modern satellites collect data, communicate and support applications ranging from environmental monitoring to global connectivity.
Central to the subject is the development of computational thinking: the ability to analyse problems logically, design systematic solutions and express them in forms that computers can execute. SST alumni have consistently shared how the foundations built through Engineering+ gave them an advantage in university courses and interdisciplinary fields. External engagements with students and institutions, such as Stanford University, the University of California, Berkeley, and local universities, further affirm the relevance and value of SST’s distinctive Engineering+ offering.
More than just a subject, Engineering+ empowers students to become future-ready innovators who can harness technology purposefully, ethically and creatively to shape the world of tomorrow.
