The School of Science and Technology, Singapore, (SST) has been making waves in the education landscape and attracting international attention for its work in spearheading a whole new way of learning grounded in science and technology. I am honoured to have been entrusted with guiding this movement as Chairman of the Board.
In all fields of our globalised economy, there is a critical need for talents who are able to apply state-of-the-art knowledge to solve real-world problems in a creative manner;
for instance, in the application of cutting-edge technologies to maximise scarce water resources, to increase productivity, or to improve the quality of life as Singapore aspires to be a smart nation in the next decade.
To this end, SST has been inspiring a new generation of innovators whose works have been featured by the media and showcased to luminaries such as the Prime Minister of Singapore with much acclaim. The pioneer cohorts of SST students have gone on to achieve stellar results at the GCE O-Level Examination while current students continue to excel at local and international platforms, outperforming competition from established institutions.
SST is a compelling option for bright students who enjoy learning through experimentation and problem-solving in disciplines such as biotechnology, computing, design, media, and engineering. Beyond a rigorous programme that prepares students for top universities and brilliant and creative careers, the school has also forged enduring partnerships with esteemed education institutions and organisations. Nanyang Technological University, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and more recently, Singapore University of Technology and Design support SST in enhancing learning opportunities for students in research, design and development, as well as enrichment programmes in the engineering sciences. The school’s close links with dedicated partners in high-technology industries have also broadened students’ perspectives in their fields of interest.
As a dynamic school at the forefront of transforming learning, SST will continue to evolve our programme to cater to the needs of our young talents. In recent years, the school underwent a consolidation of a strategic review to chart its direction moving forward. In December 2015, we welcomed Mrs Linda Chan as Principal. Mrs Linda Chan is ably supported by Vice-Principals, Chew Wai Lee and Vincent Tan. With her prior experience in science education, I am confident that she will lead the school to its next peak of excellence.
With our rejuvenated outlook and focus, I look forward to writing the next chapter of SST’s development with valued staff, students, parents and partners of SST.
Message from Chairman,
